IRS Form 1040EZ & Instructions

To be eligible to use the IRS form 1040EZ you have to meet these criteria:

  • single filing status or married filing jointly
  • if you are filing jointly, you and your spouse were under age 65 and not blind in the tax year
  • less than $100,000 taxable income
  • not claim any dependents
  • earned interest income of less than $1,500.
  • have only income sources from the following:
    • wages, salaries or tips
    • unemployment compensation
    • taxable scholarships funds or fellowship payments
    • qualified state tuition plan earnings
    • interest
  • not figure standard deduction using Schedule L in simple words no itemized deductions
  • You did not receive any advance earned income tax credit payments
  • only claim the earned income tax credit and the making work pay credit, and not claim any adjustments to income
  • You do not owe any household employee taxes on wages you paid to a household employee
  • not a debtor in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings
  • no other taxes
