To be eligible to use the IRS form 1040EZ you have to meet these criteria:
- single filing status or married filing jointly
- if you are filing jointly, you and your spouse were under age 65 and not blind in the tax year
- less than $100,000 taxable income
- not claim any dependents
- earned interest income of less than $1,500.
- have only income sources from the following:
- wages, salaries or tips
- unemployment compensation
- taxable scholarships funds or fellowship payments
- qualified state tuition plan earnings
- interest
- not figure standard deduction using Schedule L in simple words no itemized deductions
- You did not receive any advance earned income tax credit payments
- only claim the earned income tax credit and the making work pay credit, and not claim any adjustments to income
- You do not owe any household employee taxes on wages you paid to a household employee
- not a debtor in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings
- no other taxes
